Anterior pelvic tilt is when the front of the pelvis drops and the back of the pelvis rises.
This is caused by muscles imbalances within the body. ‘Tight’ hip flexors and erector spinae cause the hip to tilt forward. This results in the glute max, glute med and transverse abdominals becoming weak and lengthened.
A certain degree of anterior pelvic tilt is normal and usually unproblematic however, excessive APT, on the other hand, can lead to poor exercise technique and injuries such as hamstring strain, knee pain and lower back pain.
